Cloud Migration & Modernisation.

Move forward without losing what matters. We assess legacy applications, map dependencies and plan practical migration paths that reduce technical debt while keeping essential operations in view.

THE RIGHT STARTING POINT

Cloud migration with a clear view of what must keep working

Legacy applications often remain essential because they contain years of business rules and connect processes that cannot simply stop. Modernisation needs to respect that operational reality. SOA Technologies helps organisations assess established software, understand its dependencies and select a practical route towards a more maintainable cloud-ready estate.

The right approach may involve replatforming, refactoring individual components or retaining part of the existing environment while new services are introduced. We help distinguish changes that create useful capability from changes that simply relocate complexity. Migration planning considers application behaviour, data movement, integrations and the people who will operate the result.

WHAT THE WORK INVOLVES

Engineering in detail.

A closer look at the decisions and capabilities behind cloud modernisation.

Assessing applications and cloud readiness

Before choosing a migration approach, we examine how the application is deployed, what it depends on and which constraints matter most. This includes data stores, interface contracts, identity, configuration and operational requirements. The assessment creates a shared view of the estate and identifies areas where more investigation is needed before committing to a design or delivery sequence.

Incremental modernisation and hybrid architecture

Large changes can often be divided into controlled stages. A service boundary, API or messaging layer may let an existing component remain operational while its replacement is built and validated. We consider what can move independently, which interfaces need to stay stable and where hybrid connectivity is necessary. Each stage should have a purpose, acceptance criteria and a considered recovery approach.

Data, integration and operational transition

A migration is incomplete if the application runs but its surrounding processes do not. We plan for data validation, dependent systems, scheduled processing, monitoring and support responsibilities. Legacy middleware transitions need particular attention to message handling and exception recovery. Observability helps compare the behaviour of the old and new environments and provides useful evidence during cutover decisions.

Technical capabilities

  • Legacy application and cloud-readiness assessments
  • Replatforming and incremental application refactoring
  • Hybrid architecture and migration planning
  • Middleware, integration and data migration
  • Dependency analysis and technical risk reduction
  • Performance, telemetry and operational improvements
THE BUSINESS VALUE

What this can make possible.

Make migration decisions with a clear view of dependencies

Replace fragile components in manageable stages

Improve maintainability without unnecessary rewrites

HOW WE WORK WITH YOU

A modernisation plan your organisation can act on

Work can start with an application assessment, a dependency review or a migration design for a specific workload. We agree the business constraints and use them to shape a staged plan. Where implementation is included, changes are delivered with validation and operational handover appropriate to the risks of the system being changed.

Outputs we can agree together

Every engagement has its own scope. Depending on the work, deliverables can include:

  • An assessment of dependencies, constraints and migration options
  • A prioritised roadmap with explicit transition stages and decision points
  • Implementation and cutover guidance for the agreed modernisation scope

Scope, responsibilities and acceptance criteria are agreed before delivery begins.

BEFORE WE START

Your questions,
answered.

Have a question about your particular system? Email SOA directly and start with a brief outline.

Does cloud migration require rewriting the application?

Not necessarily. Some workloads can be replatformed with limited application changes, while others benefit from targeted refactoring. A rewrite needs a clear justification because it also means recreating existing behaviour. We assess the options against maintainability, dependencies, operational needs and the business value of the change.

Can a legacy system remain in use during modernisation?

Often it can, although the available options depend on its architecture and data flows. Incremental replacement and hybrid integration may allow parts of the estate to move at different times. We assess interface stability, data consistency and operational impact before recommending how old and new components should coexist.

Can you help migrate legacy middleware to Azure services?

Yes. Experience with enterprise middleware, including BizTalk, informs our approach to modernising integration estates. We review existing message flows and operational behaviour before mapping them to suitable Azure services. The aim is to preserve required business behaviour while improving the maintainability of the resulting architecture.
